Is it a problem if the first things I see in the morning include a DS, a PSP, and a Master Chief Kubrick figurine?

Dropping the Ball Nov. 8th, 2005 @ 08:51 pm

It may not look like much, but Ball Droppings is a very fun music creation tool. A lot like the Hanenbow mode in Electroplankton. So much so I have to wonder if Hanenbow didn't get it's inspiration from this program.

The controls are simple: Draw a line. Draw any number of lines. Move them around. As the balls hit the lines they generate different tones. Can't get much simpler than that!

Now go make some new age music ya hippy!

Currently Playing: Viewtiful Joe 2. Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. Never got around to finishing either of these and I'm giving it another go. Forgot how fun they are!
Currently Reading: The Fires of Heaven: Book 5 of the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Only 6 more fucking books to go.

November is a good month for the DS Nov. 5th, 2005 @ 05:41 pm

Talk about a crazy ass month for game releases:

Nintendo DS
Mario Kart DS - Everybody's favorite kart racer, now on the DS.
Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble - I'm a complete sucker for the Viewtiful Joe series, of this there is no doubt. While I'm not exactly ecstatic about Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble (not a big fan of fighting games), Double Trouble looks interesting.
Bust a Move DS - Yet another version of Bust a Move. Doesn't everything have this game now? I'll buy it when it drops to 10 bux.
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time - The sequel to Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, one awesome game. Reviews are looking pretty good for this puppy.
Sonic Rush - It's Sonic. It's on the DS. 'nuff said.

Interestingly enough there's only one console game that's really caught my eye: Guitar Hero for the PS2. That's right bitches, another music game with a proprietary controller. And I'm so putting this on my christmas list.

Now go do some Pac Man needle point on that winter comforter you've been sewing. Don't lie, I know you've totally been crafting you hipsters, you.

Big Sale at Toys R Us Canada Oct. 17th, 2005 @ 08:48 am

Original photo by Susan NYC on Flickr

Dear Fellow Canadian Gamers... Toys R Us has smoked to much crack and is having a stupidly cheap sale on video games. Just thought I should share the love... I know I'm a shoppin' after work today.

[UPDATE]: Of course by the time I got there a lot of titles were gone. Managed to pick up Polarium for the DS and Outlaw Golf 2 for the Playstation2 (for my sister). Apparently the stock truck comes in today so I'll give the "R zone" a shout in a bit to see if the rest of the games me an' my sis wanted came in.

That's Right God of War! FACE! Sep. 7th, 2005 @ 08:43 am

So less than a week after buying the game, I've beaten it. Now I can be a little bit on the "hardcore" side of things when I get a new game; i.e. Forgetting to eat and sleep, but I don't think I was too bad this time. Honestly! I remember to shower and sleep at the very least!

So in some respect, I'm a little disappointed that it only took a week to beat the game. When I'm forking out 60 bux (yes my American friends, 60 bux (or more! Rez cost me 80!) for a new game up here in Canukida) for a new game I kinda expect it to last ya know?

But. In other respects? WHOLEFUCKINGSHIT is that game fun! And pretty! Oh so very very pretty! And a nice plot to boot. A few twists, strong story, and told with some pretty amazing cut scenes IMHO.

So if you liked Prince of Persia (Sands of Time or Warrior Within) or anything else in that genre for that matter, I highly recommend it. PS2 only folks. Sawwy.

Currently Reading: Nothing at the mo' amazingly enough.
Currently Playing: Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls (GBA). Stupid Kashuan Keep and it's tough monsters.

Gratuitous, trying to look tough in my new chapeau, self picture.

Sorry I've been a bit slow on the bloggin' front y'all. Just been spendin' time with my boy before I head out to Moncton next week to help with our new store opening out there.

Oh yeah. I'm heading to Moncton next week. The trip was scheduled over a month ago and I totally forgot until about a few days ago. I've got a 3 hour layover in Toronto in the middle of the day next monday. Not nearly enough time to give some lovin' to [info]furrytoe, [info]iposthuman, [info]trevcub77, [info]canuckamuck or anyone else in the T.dot :( Rest assured I'll be thinking of the lot of ya (and how much I miss ya!) while I'm stuck there :(

It should be crazy busy while I'm down there, but I hope I have some time to check out the the town, see the bay of fundy and such. I'd really like to grab a beer or 3 with my buddy Michael (warning link very not work safe! all he's got is a dudes nude profile sorry!), but he's across the bay in Yarmouth and neither of us has a lot of spare cash for traveling right now :(

Let's see, what else has been going on? Finished reading Eragon by Christopher Paolini and really loved it. The second book should be out next week and I can hardly wait.

Didn't finish Killer7 however. Really loved the style and the fucked up storyline, but the terrible controls for the PS2 were killing me. I'll wait until the price on it drops to about $30 bux and pick it up for the 'cube.

So. Speaking of price drops. Looks like the DS is dropping in price. I really don't know if I'll be able to hold out anymore. Electric Blue DS with Mario64? At (I'm assuming will be) $150 CDN? That's like the magic price point for me. Especially with Meteos, Polarium, Feel the Magic: XY/XX, Warioware: Touched, and Nanostray already out there. With other games like Nintendogs, Trace Memory, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney, Trauma Centre: Under the Knife, and of course Electroplankton on the way I just don't think I'll be able to hold back :(

*le sigh*

Maybe I should start doing meth. I hear it's a cheaper addiction...

Yes children, that's a semi transparent man in bondage gear making a shushing gesture at you.
So I rented Killer7 the other day.

I'm really not sure what to say past that. The game is... well... interesting. I'm really diggin' it though I couldn't really tell you why. The story line is beyond fucked up. It's a glorified rail shooter (ie you can't explore the areas freely), and the ps2 controls are delayed as all hell. But man, does it have style.

But yeah, the plot? I'm about 15 hours into the game and I still don't have a fucking clue what's going on. All I've been doin' is killing these "heaven's smile" members, running around in minimalist buildings, and trying to figure out what the fuck is going on.

I think I'll end up picking this one up. It's fucked up enough to grab me and it's certainly one of the most original games I've played since Katamari Damacy. Hands down.

But not until they drop the price to like 20 bux. 70 is just too damn steep for any game. And probably for the 'cube as well. The PS2 version is likely a port from the gamecube and that would be why there's some control lag me thinks.
