In a few days I will be retracing the path of thousands of ancient conastogas, puttering up Shasta and down Grant’s, charring and grimacing under the Oregon blaze, just to get to you.
It’s very rare that I show my art publicly. After last time, when an angry mob showed up early with torches and pitchforks and ate all the cubical cheese, I had really lost hope in the Seattle art scene. I tried showing down here in the Bay Area, where I now reside, but had to take down early due to hippies protesting a yeti that had climbed one of the campus trees.
It is for this reason that I would be terribly obliged if only you’d find some way to drop in at either one of the art shows I’m launching this weekend.
Anachrotechnofetishism - artifacts by pioneers of american steampunk
http://suite100gallery.com/show/2008/09/12/anachrotechnofetishism

Long before the age of the internet, and well before the cold efficiency of the assembly line, existed fantastic and terrible machines, run on hope, sweat, and steam. It was a time in which form and function lived in sin, and everyman was a revolutionary.
These are 13 American artists united by broad geography and narrow aesthetic.
Marrying narrative and nostalgia to design and technology, they imagine the triumphs of the past overriding the failures of the present to create from the ruins and detritus a dazzling future-perfect.
Starring me and twelve other retropostapocalypticians, including Molly Porkshanks and Jake von Slatt, this show will feature insane amounts of designer teas and chocolates, a full set of my fine art prints, and a half-dozen original oil paintings that I have never shown in public, including Shine, Rustbutton Brass, the City, Afterglow, Twilight in the Roachfields (What I Did On My Summer Vacation), and most ridiculous of all, the Vacuum Traffic Controller: a 40 x 66″ collossus that I hope will dominate the room with his deep, slightly furrowed gaze.

Seattle, WA
September 12th thru October 3rd
Opening reception September, 12th, 6:00PM - 10:00PM

…and the Lonely Bastard
The second show is a solo venture, and will launch on Saturday the 13th. This is a much more low-key affair, and I’m hoping my friends can show up and say hello before I have to tear ass back down to the Yay. The flagship painting, an original oil on a 24 x 24″ circular board, is the Cardiographer: dark, slick, and glowing, a portrait of a ghost-muse spinning a pulse out from ectoplasm. Co-stars include brand new (as of yesterday) 12 x 12″ Flee, a silvered landscape with robot on the lam; the ever-popular Bat Smax, an extremely adorable collaboration with my partner in rape-and-pillage, Jhonen Vasquez; the complete set of original sketches for the Bee Commission (monsters, demons, and vespid whores); and a full host of fine art prints, including many that won’t be shown at the steampunk show because they simply are not steampunk. And of course, refreshments will be served. Which is really the only reason to show up to an art opening in the first place.

Well?
I like the idea of the game, but I wouldn't mind a true multiplayer. I like the "idea" of changing evolution based on external variables, but I'd much rather co-evolve a planet with people.
Annoying things:
The "digital download" isn't available for the Mac. Blizzard can do it. Oh, that's right, EA blows goats. Preloading isn't available either. Of course, the whole *idea* of preloading blows goats as well. For those of you who don't know, you can buy the product online, and download it to your machine, but it won't actually let you *play* the game until the release date. W00t! DRM Baby! Love it! er, um, no.

Okay, so, the VMAs, they were lame. Britney Spears came out and said "The show starts right now!" and then she sat down. Then Rihanna came out in a giant... tower... thing in a black (leather? pleather? vinyl?) corset-leotard and thigh-high boots that made her thighs look like hams and we all know they're not, it was so unfortunate, and she had a bunch of big-haired zombies with her, I don't know. after trying natchan fruity paradise last week, this week i picked up 白いなっちゃん, or white natchan. unsurprisingly it turned out to be a calpis-like yogurt drink, and is pretty tasty. i like calpis.
the bottle has a really nice design. the usual natchan face in silver on white. kind of a new look. like the contrast of the green leaf. |

I fell into the bottomless pit that is TV Tropes again yesterday afternoon, and came across this and... well, it made my entire day. Apparently there are a (very small) handful of m15m mentions sprinkled across the site--probably because pointing out abused/overused tropes is a large part of what I do in the parody things. It still makes me giggle every time I find one.
One More Time: Britney returns to MTV VMAs. I hear that, despite all official denials, she will actually be performing. Which is why I can't not watch this trainwreck. She'll probably end up doing just fine, though, because you'd have to be an idiot (no, a real, genuine, flatlining idiot) to crap out on national television two years in a row. And more power to her if she can hold it together this time.
(No, I'm not sure why I have a "britney spears" tag, either.)
(Oh hai! Paramore seems to be there! I am pleased.)
Also, word on the street is that some sparkle motion is going to be present tonight. I hope The Hair brought backup.
Entertainment Weekly's VMAs liveblog. I would do one myself, but... I'm just not sufficiently aware of when MTV actually plays the videos What the Kids Today listen to. I'd spend most of the liveblog going, "Here's... someone? I don't know? They are saying things and doing stuff. Hey, that girl there is almost naked."

behold the mighty Ox Potato!

Yeah, they are called Ox Potato. The stupid name arose when I named the creature still at the cell stage and it did just look like a potato with horns. I forgot to change the name as I evolved :D.
Now I am just starting to work at building the Ox Potato space empire. It was amusing when exploring planets to come across herds of Flumm Oxen and Ramtups roaming about on other worlds :). |
